The introduction of HDTV image applications to databases in Japanese Museums. The technical guidelines for the "display type Hi-Vision still image disk system" were standardised and the Hi-Vision museum system was installed in 125 institutions. The application of HDTV Image is now moving to the interactive system by the standardisation of "retrieval type" technical guidelines. Two case studies will be introduced: the HDTV Image Database in Ogaki City which I designed and completed in March 1996, and the 3D Image explorer which deals with solid objects.
