Development of a computer system for the Royal Collection of Her Majesty The Queen

Ian Hardy

The Royal Collection required the implementation of a computer system to facilitate the Collection's proper records management, given its size, geographic spread and movement, complex custodial control and usage. This paper describes the procurement of the system and the main elements involved - object numbering and data collection; a location index; object movement control procedures; project management and control; and the system hardware configuration and software. The database, access functions and terminology control are also described.
