For many decades, computers have been used in the 'back offices' of museums and art galleries for archiving and managing collections. In the 1990s, with the falling cost of hardware and the advent of multimedia, they are moving into the public areas. Many museum curators are experienced in mounting traditional exhibitions, but unfamiliar with the process of creating an electronic exhibit. This article is an acccount by the producers of the making of the award-winning 'My Brighton' multimedia community history exhibit for Brighton Museum and Art Gallery and the producers' comments on the lessons to be learnt.
