Integrating access to the collections of the Canadian Centre for Architecture, Montreal

J. Trant

The database structure in place at the Canadian Centre for Architecture, Montreal, manages information about the collection and makes it available to specific user groups. This system is more than just an automated database acting as a central repository for information, it reflects policy decisions regarding what should be recorded and is grounded in procedures which ensure that recording takes place. It also embodies a shared understanding of the type of information needed about the collections and the uses to which that information will be put. Its design has therefore focused on the issues of standards (including vocabulary and authority control) access and integration.
