The Van Eyck Project, Information Exchange in Art Libraries

Colum Hourihane and John Sunderland

This paper outlines the aims and objectives of Van Eyck (Visual Arts Network for the Exchange of Cultural Knowledge), a collaborative project supported by the European Union and coming under the Libraries' Programme. Here we provide a description of the work carried out under Phase I, detailing the nature and content of the various workpackages. Van Eyck will proceed to Phase II, subject to the agreement of the European Commission, towards the end of 1994. In this phase our aim is to produce an operational system which will enable the linking and searching of art history databases.
