Professor Vaughan describes the Morelli system and the processes by which it mathematically and automatically classifies and analyses the formal and visual aspects of pictures. he shows the variations that can be imposed by changing the parameters of the system and he looks to potential practical applications in the field of art history and to the ways in which Morelli might contribute towards the development of a visual syntax of forms.
